Built as a temporary facility in 1977, Powell Garage was in need of modernization to increase safety, capacity and employee well-being. Construction of the new bus maintenance facility included a phased rebuild of the entire 17-acre site while keeping it active and operational.
On this tour you’ll be able to see TriMet’s three-bay fuel and wash building, which houses a bus-wash system that treats and reclaims water by recycling 300 gallons per minute. See some of the 22 bus maintenance bays and a new 400,000-square-foot yard that can house more than 300 buses.
You’ll also learn about the electrification of the site that supports TriMet’s commitment to having a 100% zero-emission fleet by 2040. Photography is prohibited in secured areas.
