New Community 5K Event Celebrating Mobility and Transit Careers Coming to Memory Grove Park

Salt Lake City, UT — A new community event encouraging health, community connection, and career awareness is coming to Salt Lake City this year. LIT will host the inaugural LIT 5K Run, Walk, or Roll at Memory Grove Park, inviting community members of all ages and abilities to participate in a fun and meaningful outdoor experience.

The event will take place at 300 N Canyon Rd, Salt Lake City, UT, offering participants the chance to run, walk, or roll along one of the most scenic park pathways in the country. Surrounded by beautiful mountain views and peaceful trails, Memory Grove Park provides the perfect setting for this energetic and inclusive event.

Designed for all fitness levels, participants can choose between a 5K (3.1 mile) route or a 1-mile option, making the event accessible for runners, walkers, wheelchair users, families, students, and community members.
“This event is about bringing people together,” said Christina Villarreal, Executive Director of LIT. “We want to celebrate community, encourage healthy activity, and introduce people to the many career opportunities that exist in public transportation and technology.”

A Race with a Purpose
The LIT 5K is more than just a race. The event aims to raise awareness about the important role public transportation plays in everyday life and highlight career pathways in fields such as engineering, technology, planning, operations, and communications.

Participants are encouraged to show their creativity and community pride by wearing transit-themed or STEM-inspired outfits, including agency gear, safety vests, or creative designs representing buses, trains, and mobility.

Event Highlights

1-Mile Community Route A relaxed option for families, beginners, and those who simply want to enjoy the park while supporting the event.
Limited Edition Medal The first 100 participants to cross the finish line in the 5K will receive a special commemorative medal celebrating the first-ever LIT 5K.
