The Latinos In Transit Internship Program is designed to provide interns with:
Paid Opportunities to work for a multicultural, non-profit organization that advocates equity, diversity, and inclusion and enables the development and advancement of its members to executive positions, as well as other positions of influence in the mobility industry.
Hands-on assignments that will broaden their perspectives on transportation issues, outreach efforts, nonprofit programming, and public administration.
Work Structure to support the LIT Board of Directors and staff in the coordination, facilitation and implementation of the programs and services that carry the mission of LIT forward.
Direct Access to participate in activities, innovations, and challenges that come with working for a national nonprofit organization serving diverse populations that work in the transit industry sector.
Mentorship by industry professionals that will help guide you to explore your own personal career goals.
As an intern for Latinos In Transit, participants will gain a full spectrum of professional experiences to leverage in their growing careers. Interns may work either part-time or full-time in varying capacities within the organization. Some assignments may include assisting in: the facilitation of virtual programming; member relations; program management; outreach; communications and public relations efforts; event planning; assisting with web and graphic design, and assisting with administrative duties that arise from the day-to-day operations of Latinos In Transit.
The intern compensation is $15.62 per hour and work performed will be done remotely.
This internship program is open to recent graduates and current students who are enrolled or accepted for enrollment in a qualifying educational institution at least half-time. We especially invite diverse communities, building their capacity to work in the public administration or transit sector. This internship looks to expand access to the professional opportunities to persons including, but not limited to, those from diverse populations.

Internship Opportunities
Non-Profit Management Intern: This internship will provide opportunities to selected participants to have hands-on experience with running the day-to-day operations of LIT. This will include working with LIT’s Administrative Director in carrying out the administrative duties that come with managing the LIT Board of Directors and Committees. The intern will also help provide experience in maintaining nonprofit compliance and internal controls. Lastly, the intern will help to implement and advance the strategic plan of the organization, while helping build its membership through member relations. This intern will also have the opportunity to maintain population measures statistics to document the success and growth of the organization and assist in implementing project management practices for the organization.
Public Relations and Communications Intern: This internship will provide opportunities to selected participants to have hands-on experience with developing and implementing the LIT brand. Under the supervision of the LIT Administrative Director and Communications Committee, this intern will assist with the development of social media campaigns, assist in preparing press releases, assist in the maintenance of the LIT website, assist in designing the monthly e-newsletter and assist in creating other multimedia materials to help elevate the LIT name. This intern will work with the Communications Committee to help plan and facilitate our monthly online networking events, “Cafe Con LIT.”
Outreach Coordinator Internship: This internship will provide opportunities for selected participants to have hands-on experience with facilitating LIT programming. Under the supervision of the Administrative Director, this includes assisting with the development and implementation of the LIT Leadership Academy; assisting with the development and execution of LIT Networking Events; assisting with the development and execution of member surveys to help advance and improve the programs and services of LIT. This internship is a good opportunity for those interested in working in the transit sector. It will provide opportunities that relate to transit industry trends, issues, DEI efforts, and workforce development. This intern will assist with member recruitment campaigns and scholarship donation campaigns. This internship will also provide opportunities for selected participants to have hands-on experience in planning a nationally recognized event, the LIT Leadership Summit. Under the supervision of the LIT Administrative Director, the intern will assist in the planning and execution of the Summit and work with multiple committees that oversee communications and public relations, procurement and vendor contracts, and event planning. Participants will also have the opportunity to assist with registration relations and outreach efforts.
