The Leadership Academy is career development training curated and facilitated by transportation industry leaders.


The LIT Leadership Academy consists of four virtual training and development program areas:

Making of An Executive
Leading in Middle Management
New Careers in Transit
Transit B
oard Leadership


Leadership Academy participants gain an in-depth understanding of public transportation and learn about management practices, finance, procurement, labor relations, and regulatory compliance. Each area consists of five modules, with one module held each month (3.5 hours) over a period of five months. The modules are taught virtually by industry leaders. To graduate, participants complete an in-person presentation at the LIT Leadership Summit. The LITLA Graduation Ceremony takes place at the Leadership Summit as well.

The LIT Leadership Academy offers a comprehensive virtual training and development experience through four unique program areas:

  • New Careers in Transit
  • Transit Board Leadership

Participants gain a deep understanding of public transportation, including management practices, finance, procurement, labor relations, and regulatory compliance. Each program area consists of five monthly modules (3.5 hours each), taught virtually by industry leaders. To graduate, participants must attend the Leadership Summit to give an in-person presentation of their capstone projects. The academy concludes with a graduation ceremony during the summit.

Team 4 -  An industry scan to establish common thresholds for “meaningfully greater” minorities analyses and recommend comprehensive strategies to guide policymakers and alike in ensuring transit projects do not perpetuate injustices in communities of concern.

Team 5 - Transit Safety and Security and its impact on Customer Experience, Availability of Funds, and Operations

Team 7 - "To Fare or Not to Fare" - Evaluate the potential benefits, costs, and trade-offs of implementing a fare-free system verse paying a fare.

Team 8 - Workforce shortage in transit with an emphasis on retention
